FRM Demo Episodes. II: Lucid Drawing with Scott Mckowen
To fill the void left and as a continuation to FRM project, FRM Demo Episodes arose.
Welcome to a drawing/painting class guided by an artist from the project, where they teach their approach to one of my references (new ones) in their own media, techniques and unique vision.
You will be able to learn their process, workflow, studio organization, materials and see a step-by-step treatment of the figure; as well as explore their insights and train of thought -> decision-making. After their demo, an extensive round of Q&A follows where you can throw your intrigues. Of course, I'm there, hosting the session, admiring the talent, and making some occasional questions myself.
Note: I am not modeling live, it is a work based on a photo reference of mine. Those attending are delivered the reference to be used prior to the demo, so that they can study the image a bit beforehand. This reference is included in this purchase.
Episode II: Lucid Drawing with Scott McKowen
This is the recording from the second Episode, featuring acclaimed illustrator Scott McKowen ( IG @scottmkowen, www.punchandjudy.ca/illustration )
SCOTT McKOWEN has enjoyed a four-decade career as an award-winning illustrator, art director and graphic designer across North America.
He started life drawing as a student at the University of Michigan School of Art in the mid-1970s. He has been part of a convivial life drawing group in his small city of Stratford, Ontario, Canada, for four decades.
“It’s hard to decide what’s cooler about Scott McKowen’s poster art: the astonishing, elegant design and linework, or the way he tips your preconceptions on their head and does something unexpected with every assignment.” —Neil Gaiman
In this demo Scott talks about the basics of block-in, measuring (using a knitting needle), analysis stage vs. spontaneity, how to create texture with lines, value and contrast, and the mystery of when to call a drawing finished. And of course, the relationship between his scratchboard illustration work and his extensive participation in life-drawing (has he ever fused paths?)
It was a very instructive class with lots of illustrative tips, materials' information, references from other people in arts, and in-depth insight into a beautiful profession and exciting life.
Have fun and share what you learned, don't forget to tag us!
